Make Adding Friends Easier.
Allow people to send friend requests instead of them both having to add one another as fans. I haven't seen a single user who wasn't at first confused by it. Make the add as favourite button somthing like a subscribe to profile (as thats essentially what your doing) and a separate "Send friend request" which posts via private message to the other person.

I can see that if you come from MySpace or similar, it's not clear how to add someone as a friend, but we do explain it in the FAQ, and I'm afraid a request system would generate a lot of spam, an spammers...

It's fine as it is now. The system for adding friends is clearly explained in the FAQ.
Posted 3 months agoEven if it did change to what you recommend, I suspect you'd still have people who don't read about the new way of doing things, and then asking in a chatroom/posting a forum thread about how to do it.
