The perspective is a little skewed. First of all, you can position your ship right where things appear and take them out as they come pretty easily by just repeatedly clicking.
Also, the gun turrets tend to do the same thing. If they shoot at you, there's no depth. If it would seem like it would pass in front of you, it still hits you.
